First Official 'Sherlock' Season 3 Photo is Full of Pain and Sorrow

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in Sherlock Season 3 photo

BBC One decided to give its dedicated 'Sherlock' fans a special little treat this week by releasing the first official photo of Season 3 to its Facebook page. That's right, everyone — now we have actual, solid proof that our favorite doctor and detective will join forces once again for what's sure to be another thrilling season. (Not that we ever doubted it or anything...we've just been in withdrawal for so long!)

But given what the picture suggests, it may not be a very happy least not at first. In it, we see Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) staring through a window at a very grief-stricken Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman). Why so serious, you two? Could this wall represent more than just a physical barrier, but an emotional one as well? After all, there's no telling how Watson will react once he discovers that his friend is indeed alive and well.

But the network didn't leave us completely in the dark and offered a brief caption and preview to go along with the image:

"It's been a long time since Sherlock Holmes jumped off that roof - it's time to reveal the truth about what happened between him and the pavement" - Steven Moffat.

"The question on everyone's lips will finally be answered when Sherlock returns with three brand new action-packed adventures. How did he do it? And how will John take the news that his best friend faked his own death? What will Sherlock think when he finds out John has fallen in love with Mary Morstan?"

It doesn't take impressive deductive skills to realize that these two crime-solving partners have a rough road ahead of them (we hear faking your own death can really take its toll on a friendship), but let's hope they're able to patch things up quickly. We really miss this bromance! Everything else is simply elementary, my dear readers.

But in the meantime, there's still so many unanswered questions to ponder. Like how will Sherlock react to Watson's new lady love? What has the good detective been up to in his fake afterlife? And, most importantly, just how was he able to survive jumping off that roof? Thankfully, answers are now only a few months away. Is it Jan. 19 yet?

What do you think of the Season 3 photo? Are you excited for 'Sherlock's return? Sound off on all your deductions in the comments below!

Exactly how are you expecting the creators of the show to give you a 10 episode season when the two main leads are in major movies? I think we're very bloody lucky that they were able to give us the last season and this upcoming one, what with Martin Freeman filiming The Hobbit and Benedict Cumberbatch doing Star Trek, The Fifth Estate and 12 Years a Slave all coming out this year? Honestly, do you not live in reality?

With this being the 3rd season and having only had 7 episodes so far, is it really worth rewarding the makers of this show, especialy with there apparent dis-like of the audence. 7 episodes in 3 years is a bloody joke. Even though it is a good show, I for one will not be watching any more episodes until they have at the very bloody least, 10 episodes per season.
