Last week's 'Scandal' delivered a mother of a surprise (quite literally) when the truth behind Operation Reminginton was revealed... but we won't spoil it by saying how. So now that the truth is finally out in the open, the ABC drama has decided it's time to actually meet Mama Pope at long last.
So who is the face behind the mother of Washington D.C.'s famous fixer? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has booked actress Khandi Alexander in the role as a recurring character who will appear in flashbacks as the deceased Maya Lewis starting this week.
Scott Foley, who plays the oh-so-dreamy Jake Ballard, previously hinted to the site that the show would flash back to when Olivia (Kerry Washington) was just a little girl, giving fans a new and very different look at our White-Hatted Gladiator. (Anyone else hope she'll still be wearing a pantsuit?)
We already know Rowan is just plain awful, so it will be nice to see where Olivia gets her strength and independence from — a role that seems perfectly fit for someone of Alexander's caliber. Now the only question that remains is...what put her on Rowan's hit list in the first place?
Some of Alexander's other notable TV credits include 'CSI: Miami,' 'Body of Proof,' and 'ER.' The actress also recently starred as LaDonna Batiste-Williams on HBO's 'Treme,' which will premiere its fourth and final season Sunday, Dec. 1 on HBO.
'Scandal' airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Hit the comments below and let us know your thoughts on the series' latest casting news.
