NBC Releases First 'The Sound of Music, Live!' Trailer
Singing, dancing, A-list Hollywood stars — these are a few of our favorite things. And it's something NBC seems more than happy to provide. The network's plan to bring Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical 'The Sound of Music' to the small-screen for a live TV adaptation is still fully underway. And now there's even a trailer to prove it.
Starring country singer Carrie Underwood as Maria and 'True Blood' star Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg Von Trapp, the teaser clip showcases a rather impressive ensemble cast in action and allows Underwood to show off those phenomenal pipes of hers. Plus, there's dancing!
Since the program is, again, going to be completely live, there's obviously no footage from the final product (you'll have to tune in to see that). However, these brief glimpses of rehearsal footage prove that this project is being taken very seriously.
"It feels so good and we're doing it live in front of the entire universe," Underwood dishes in the trailer. "The talent is off the charts. These people are amazing." Of course, the talent she's referring to includes three Broadway vets: 'Smash' star Christian Borle (as Max Detweiler), 'Private Practice's Audra McDonald (as Mother Abbess), and Laura Benanti (as the Captain's former fiancée Elsa Schrader). Benanti also played Maria on Broadway back in 1998. Sadly, a Julie Andrews cameo is nowhere to be found.
'The Sound of Music, Live!' is scheduled to air on Thursday, Dec. 5. And while there's still a lot of skepticism surrounding the production (it is, after all, a time-honored classic, so the bar is set pretty high), we'd say it's definitely looks worth watching. But don't just take our word for it.
Check out the footage below and see if you think the trailer is alive with the sound of talent.
