It's no secret that freshman ABC comedy 'Trophy Wife' has had a tough time finding an audience. While ratings have yet to dip below the dreaded 1.0, 'Trophy's 18-49 demo numbers have hardly been great. In a move that will hopefully help solve that problem, female lead Malin Akerman has enlisted her 'Childrens Hospital' castmate Rob Corddry as a guest star for an upcoming episode, as per EW.
Corddry (who first gained national attention as a correspondent on 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart from 2002-2006) will portray "Sensei Rick," a small-time martial arts teacher that runs a dojo out of a local strip mall. When Pete (male lead Bradley Whitford) takes his kids to Rick's dojo in the hopes that they'll learn discipline and integrity through martial arts, he is shocked by the instructor's overly aggressive style, leading to a confrontation between the two men.
Akerman and Corddry have starred together in Adult Swim's 'Childrens Hospital' since 2010. The series is still ongoing, and finished up its latest season back in October. While the above plot crunch says the main conflict is between Whitford and Corddry's characters, I can't imagine that Akerman won't be getting involved at some point, hopefully leading to some choice banter between the 'Hospital' co-stars.
Despite its struggles, 'Trophy Wife' was recently picked up for a full 22 episode first season by ABC. New episodes air every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. Corddry's episode has yet to be scheduled.
