'American Horror Story' has served up an amazing ensemble throughout the years, which includes an impressive arc of seasonal guest stars. However, the talent has never been more prominent than in Season 3's 'Coven,' now that the brilliant Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett have joined the ranks. And from the sounds of things...they're looking to stick around on a more permanent basis.
Series co-creator, Ryan Murphy, recently told Entertainment Weekly of his hopes for Bates and Bassett (who currently play immortal archenemies Madame LaLaurie and Marie Laveaux, respectively) to return for the show's fourth season, which was just announced earlier this week. And the best part is that they both seem interested in the idea!
“I have approached them and they wanna do it,” Murphy explains. “That’s very exciting when you can work with A.) actresses you’ve always idolized and B.) those two are loving this season. They love what they get to do."
So how do the actresses show their appreciation? Murphy adds, "Kathy Bates sent the writers a basket of plush toys all in the shapes of disemboweled organs. It doesn’t get better than when an Oscar winner sends you a grab bag of stuffed pancreas to say ‘Thank you and job well done.’” How awesome is that?
From the way we see it, there's really no downside to this. The main recurring cast is already a phenomenal group of actors thanks to the likes of Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters. (And we've already demonstrated how terrifyingly talented grand dame Jessica Lange is.) So with Bates and Bassett getting added into the mix, 'AHS' is gearing up to be the best it's ever been — which is really saying something. Now it's just a matter of predicting what crazy plot they'll come up with next.
