CBS action drama 'Person of Interest' has steadily become more serialized as the seasons have progressed. While each episode does still contain a "case of the week" for Reese, Finch, and the team to solve, nary a week goes by anymore without developments in Carter's quest to take down HR, or Finch's attempts to acclimate Shaw to the team, or Root's machine-guided journey of discovery.
'POI's third season will soon have another arc to add to its ever-growing mythology, although this one is a bit more personal than the others. Acclaimed TV veterans Camryn Manheim ('Ghost Whisperer,' 'The Practice') and Saul Rubinek ('Warehouse 13,' dozens of other things) are set to join the series for a multi-episode story.
As first reported by TVLine, Manheim will portray Diane, wife of Rubinek's Arthur. Arthur is a brilliant man, but is slowly losing his grip on reality. With the help of the 'POI' team, Diane embarks on a risky mission to reach her husband and thus unlock the secrets buried within his damaged mind. If she can't, both their lives may be in jeopardy. The exact number of episodes that this will play out over has yet to be revealed.
The original report does not expand on what (if any) connection Diane and Arthur's story has to the overall 'POI' saga, but if I had to guess, I'd wager that Arthur is some type of scientist or mathematician that runs afoul of the wrong people. It would certainly fit the show's usual modus operandi. I'll be interested to tune in next year and see if my prediction comes true.
