The Tim Gunn Empire continues to grow on television, as the sharply-dressed and well-manicured personality will host yet another fashion reality competition show next year.
Lifetime, the network that already airs Gunn’s popular series ‘Project Runway,’ along with its various offshoots, has agreed with Gunn for 13 episodes of a new, albeit very similarly sounding show.
Unable to avoid the easy pun, the show is dubbed ‘Under the Gunn,’ is soon to start shooting and will premiere on Jan. 16, 2014. The unscripted series will pit aspiring fashion designers against one another, judged by the likes of Rachel Roy, Jen Made, and Zanna Roberts Rassi.
Gunn will bring with him some familiar faces, as former ‘Runway’ personalities Mondo Guerra, Anya-Ayoung-Chee, and Nick Verreos will carry on as mentors to the fashion hopefuls. The series will be led by Bunim/Murray production, also of ‘Runway’ fame.
Originally on Bravo and later on Lifetime, ‘Project Runway’ is where Gunn rose to fame, hosting the show alongside Heidi Klum for 12 season and over 150 episodes. In 2013, the pair won Emmys for Outstanding Hosts of a Reality Competition Program.
For now, the new show sounds particularly similar to ‘Project Runway,’ which may not necessarily be a bad thing. It remains to be seen if there is a market for more fashion reality competition series, but the flagship show that has lead the way in this genre is still going strong nearly 10 years later.
