NBC's new hit show 'Smash' is tackling the musical angle with a powerful and romantic first season. The blossoming and steady relationship of Karen (Katharine Mcphee) and Dev (Raza Jaffrey) has hit a bit of turmoil, and fans are told to expect the unexpected with their relationship as well as Dev's new foundation with news reporter RJ (Tala Ashe).
"Dev has really wanted his girlfriend to be a successful actress and he's so proud of what she does, but sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for because there's a lot of other stuff that comes with that," said Jaffrey about his character and his future relationships.
The introduction of Urm Thurman as Rebecca Duvall, an archetyopical controlling actress heroine, becomes a sort of icon for the younger Karen. Fans should see a quick adjustment of her standing in the acting world, perhaps losing a bit of her naiveity along the way.
"Dev is a politician and politicians don't necessarily share the same hero worship of movie stars that actors have. That can be a dangerous thing for your relationship. Some of Karen's innocence, which may be what Dev found attractive, is starting to be lost in the course of being this successful star."
Fans are left to speculate the direction the show will go as we see the introduction of the alarming new Duvall and RJ to add intriguing and possibly cataclysmic dynamics to the relationship of Karen and Dev. With only four episodes left, the producers say theys till have time to set the relationship in a new direction and explore the indentities of the characters into the season adn beyond.
