Not only will this week's 'The Mentalist' be a game-changer for the series, aka Jane (Simon Baker) finally comes face to face with Red John, but it looks like it will also influence the rest of the season -- in a time jump way.
In an interview with USA Today
, 'Mentalist' creator Bruno Heller (warning: some of his answers are spoilery) revealed that beginning with the Dec. 1 episode the rest of Season 6 will be two years ahead of where this Sunday's episode ends.
So, where does this leave the team, especially Jane and Lisbon (Robin Tunney)? Lisbon will be in San Francisco, Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace (Amanda Righetti) will be in northern California and Cho (Tim Kang) will be in Austin, which just happens to be FBI Agent Dennis Abbott's (Rockmond Dunbar) home base. Oh, and Jane will be out of the country.
If that's not enough, according to Heller, Jane "wants nothing to do with his old life at all. [Lisbon] has made a new life for herself, [but] after two years she finds she's thinking about Jane all the time."
With these big changes also comes "a world of higher stakes and bigger strategies" for their investigations. "They won't just be solving crimes in California," Heller added.
Baker also directs the Dec. 1 episode. "It's a coming of age in a way," Baker said. "It redefines the relationship between Jane and Lisbon in a real and adult way."
What do you think about all of these changes? Will you stick around after the Red John episode?
Be sure to check back to TVRage after Sunday's episode, as we'll be posting remarks from Baker and Heller, who spoke with us the other day during a conference call.
'The Mentalist' airs this Sunday at 10/9c on CBS.
