After multiple years of being one of the biggest laughing stocks in Hollywood, former Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan seems like she might just be on the verge of a career revival. For one, she's been doing a pretty good job of staying out of trouble since her probation ended. Good on her for that. Secondly, she earned a lot of good will with audiences in her gig as host of Saturday Night Live a few months back. The episode was one of the highest rated of the season, and showed that Ms. Lohan still has some drawing power left. Now, EW.com is reporting that Lindsay has signed up for her first leading role since 2009's (direct to DVD) Labor Pains, and the role she chose is a doozy.
Lohan will be portraying legendary Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor in a forthcoming biopic chronicling her incredibly complicated relationship with two time husband and fellow Hollywood icon Richard Burton entitled Liz & Dick. True, the movie is being produced for the Lifetime network, and thus won't see Lohan return to her early 2000's theatrical glory, but doing well with a meaty role will go a long way towards reestablishing the fact that she does actually have talent when she tries.
No director has been announced as of yet, but the tele-film is scheduled to begin shooting in June. In a statement, Lohan said the following about why she accepted the part - "“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.” That was a pretty classy response, hopefully Lindsay has grown up enough now to not be such a diva on the set this time. Her past (mis)behavior on film sets has been well documented.
Do you think Lohan is up to playing Liz Taylor? Will the biopic help continue her career rehab? Or will this be another in a long line of flops for the young actress?
I just think it's a shame to have her play this role, such an iconic part, because of morbid curiousity and not because of her talent.
Oh No, this is not good. Lilo doesn't deserve this part. Let's face it, she's really not done anything to be worthy of it. Elizabeth Taylor? People of course will watch, not for her talent but because she's a train wreck and folks are waiting for the other shoe to drop and to delight in her misery. There are so many other truly accomplished artists out there who take their craft more seriously. Bad idea.
