BBC Unwraps ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special Photo & Episode Title

It’s been an exciting past few days for ‘Doctor Who’ fans (who didn’t watch the 50th anniversary special?), and it’s about to get even better!

Yesterday, BBC revealed the very first photo from the upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special, in addition to the title of the highly-anticipated episode. The episode is titled “The Time of the Doctor.” Talk about a great early holiday present!

Oh, and it gets better. Just check out the photo (above). As you can see, Matt Smith aka The Doctor stands holding a Cyberman mask, while Clara (Jenna Coleman) sports some type of holiday crown.

The special episode will see the official departure of Smith, which will make way for the new Doctor played by Peter Capaldi, in addition to the introduction of ‘Fringe’s Orla Brady in a new role.

The episode is described as follows, “Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars … Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.”

In case you missed it, be sure to check out the ‘Doctor Who’ teaser trailer for the Christmas Special below. Who’s counting down the days until this very special (and bittersweet, for those fans not wanting to bid Smith farewell) episode?

The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special airs Wednesday, Dec. 25.

The 'holiday crown' is a paper hat which would have come out of the Christmas cracker that Clara is holding. It's a British thing - we pull them at Xmas, similar to the US pulling a turkey's wishbone. It contains a snap (which creates a 'bang' when pulled), and the person with larger half gets a paper hat (usually worn during the meal), a small toy and an awful joke (e.g. Why did Santa's helper see the doctor? Because he had low 'elf' esteem!)

1) is that The Silence in the background?

2) I hope clara gets as attached to her paper crown as The Doctor did with fezzes over the last few years.
