This is sad news. Actor Paul Walker died Saturday afternoon in a single-car accident. He was 40 years old.
TMZ was first to report the news that the car carrying Walker apparently slammed into a tree and burst into flames. It was reported that the accident occured in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles. Within minutes of TMZ's breaking news, Twitter went into overtime, with many questioning the validity of the story. However, per TVLine, the tragic news was confirmed on the actor’s official Facebook page:
"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – #TeamPW"
Though Walker is best known for his turn in the 'Fast and Furious' franchise, he got his start on television with guest appearances on 'The Young & The Restless,' 'Who's the Boss?' and 'Touched By An Angel.' On a personal note, I will forever remember him -- and his winning smile -- from such '90s classic films as 'She's All That' and 'Varsity Blues.'
Walker's latst film, the Hurricane Katrina drama, 'Hours,' is due out Dec. 13.
