For some, Dan Hedaya is recognized for appearing on ‘Ryan’s Hope,’ ‘Cheers,’ ‘Monk,’ among many other TV shows, while others know him for playing Cher’s dad on ‘Clueless.’ Now he’ll be known for portraying Danny’s (Chris Messina) dad on ‘The Mindy Project.’
As first reported by Vulture, Hedaya will pop on the hilarious FOX comedy sometime in January 2014 as Alan Castellano aka the father who abandoned Danny and his baby brother Richie (‘Social Network’s Max Minghella).
Not only did last week’s episode bring Danny’s brother, but it also brought more information about Danny’s relationship with his brother and father. As fans learned, Danny raised Richie, thanks to his dad leaving them. However, that didn’t stop Richie from reconnecting with their father, which then caused Danny to get angry and even warn Richie to not let Alan “near his marrow!” All worked out between Danny and Richie, but not so much for Danny’s relationship with his father.
In addition to the above details, Vulture also reveals that Alan lives in Joshua Tree, Calif. and that the episode was written by Mindy Kaling (who plays the titular character Mindy Lahiri) and Tracy Wigfield (‘30 Rock’).
It's quite possible that Alan will make a visit to New York City, or that Danny will visit his father while he and the rest of the gang are in Los Angeles for a conference, as E! Online recently reported. I guess we'll have to tune in to find out!
What do you think of Hedaya joining the comedy as Danny’s father?
‘The Mindy Project’ airs Tuesdays at 9:30/8:30c on FOX.
