'Castle' may have already started its midseason break, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty to look forward to at the start of the new year. Like what, you may ask? Well, it has recently come to light that James Brolin is gearing up to put in an encore performance of his role as Rick’s CIA (not to mention MIA) father, Jackson Hunt.
Show creator Andrew W. Marlowe confirmed the exciting news to TVLine earlier today, but warned that when Hunt actually does resurface, this father-son reunion may not be a very happy one. "Castle begins to wonder whether he can trust this mysterious stranger,” Marlowe teases. But we guess that can happen when your dad is a ruthless, highly trained CIA assassin.
Brolin had made mention of his return to the ABC drama to AntennaFree.TV back in November, where he too hinted to seeing a much darker side to daddy dearest. "Well, there’s no reason for me to do another episodic show…unless I can show you the complete other side of this character, the one you might be afraid of. Rather than you finding out he’s a good guy, you find out he’s good in front, but….”
Uh oh! Sounds like poor Castle will be in for quite a rude awakening throughout this little reunion, which is tentatively set to air on Jan. 20, 2014.
Brolin originated the role of Jackson Hunt back during the aptly titled Season 5 episode 'Hunt,' which resulted in father and son teaming up to save Alexis from her evil kidnappers. (You know, because there's nothing like a good abduction situation to help bring a family together.) Let's just hope these two are able to patch things up before the wedding.

'Castle' will return from its winter hiatus on Monday, Jan. 6 at 10/9c on ABC.
