2014 SAG Award Nominees: From 'The Butler' to 'Breaking Bad'

screen actor guild awards, nominations

It's official: awards season is here. The Grammys kicked it off last Friday with that totally unnecessary concert, and now this morning brings the Screen Actor Guild Awards (SAG) nominations. The nominations, which are often an early precursor to the Oscars, begged a few questions: why is it announced so early? And is Mariah Carey really nominated for an acting award?

Well, I don't know the answer to the first question (I'm sure it has something to do with time zones or something) but, yes (Carey is nominated as part of the ensemble for 'Lee Daniel's The Butler').

Besides Carey, the 20th edition of the awards will bring out some of Hollywood's biggest stars. On the film side, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey and Oprah Winfrey were among the performers nominated. Among the TV nominees, there are a lot of familiar faces -- Bryan Cranston for 'Breaking Bad,' Claire Danes for 'Homeland' - but also pleasant surprises like Kerry Washington ('Scandal') and Mayim Bialik ('The Big Bang Theory').

Sasha Alexander ('Rizzoli & Isles') and Clark Gregg ('Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.') announced the nominations, and I'm sure they're back in bed now. The SAG Awards will air live Jan. 18 on TBS and and TNT at 8/7c. And don't worry, there are plenty more award nominations to come: The Golden Globes will be unveiled tomorrow, and then the big kahuna -- the Academy Award nominations -- won't be revealed until Jan. 16.

Below, the entire list of the nominees are posted. What do you think of the nominations? Were your favorites included?

Pretty soon every one in every industry will receive an award. Even the lame kids get trophies for showing up to play.
