In what may be welcome news for some, though likely not to those involved, actresses Morena Baccarin and Morgan Saylor have been downgraded from ‘Homeland’ and are no longer series regulars heading into Season 4.
This news, as first reported by TVLine, comes just ahead of the Season 3 finale, set to air Sunday at 9/8c on Showtime.
Baccarin and Saylor play Jessica and Dana Brody, the wife and daughter of Nicholas Brody, the central figure of the political thriller. The two characters have been subject to a great deal of drama over the last three seasons, as having once accepted their husband and father dead and gone only to have him return home alive. Then of course he was still traumatized, and then maybe he was a terrorist, maybe he wasn’t, but he often disappeared, sometimes running off with a beautiful C.I.A agent – it’s a lot to handle for a family.
So naturally the two got into their own issues, especially Dana, a character much maligned by the viewing public. Her inclination for drama caused an uproar by the fan faithful, requesting she leave the show.
Now the two have parted, as their storylines for the most part come to a close. Neither was particularly present during a Season 3 as it were, but both have the possibility of returning in the future in guest roles. Baccarin was pregnant for a portion of the season’s filming, which likely contributed to her absence as well.
Baccarin has an Emmy nomination to her credit for this role, and seems set to have a lot of opportunities comes her way.
