'Gossip Girl' alum Kevin Zegers has signed on to FOX's remake of the U.K. hit murder mystery miniseries 'Broadchurch', entitled 'Gracepoint.' Zegers will take on the role of local reporter Owen Burke, a hometown boy whose big-city dreams are reawakened when a big-city journalist comes to town, much to the chagrin of his Aunt Ellie.
'Doctor Who's David Tennant will reprise his 'Broadchurch' role in 'Gracepoint,' and will be joined by 'Breaking Bad' Emmy-winner Anna Gunn as Ellie Miller, and 'Silver Linings Playbook' Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver as Susan Wright. These roles were played in 'Broadchurch' by Olivia Colman and Pauline Quirke, respectively. The 'Broadchurch' equivalent of Zegers' role, Olly Stevens, was played by Jonathan Bailey.
'Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall will write the premiere episode and executive produce the series. 'In Treatment''s Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein will serve as showrunners.
Aside from 'Gossip Girl,' Zegers has appeared in 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,' 'The Jane Austen Book Club,' 'Dawn of the Dead,' and never forget: the 'Air Bud' films.
Filming for 'Gracepoint' begins next month on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Canada and it is set to air in the 2014-2015 season.
'Broadchurch' was a captivating miniseries, and it will be very interesting to see what FOX and this new cast does with it for the U.S. remake.
