Is Nicholas Brody aka British actor Damian Lewis headed to ‘Downton Abbey’? Well, nothing is official, but anything can happen in the TV world.
Before I get to specifics, let me warn you, spoilers from Sunday’s ‘Homeland' follow, so if you don’t want to know what happened, or you have yet to watch the Season 3 finale, turn around right now.
With that said, Lewis, who won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role as Brody on the Showtime hit, recently chatted with The New York Times about his character’s fatal departure from Sunday’s episode titled “The Star.”
Despite no more Brody, that means Lewis is available for other TV roles, like on the hit series ‘Downton Abbey’! After being asked if he has received a call from ‘Downton,’ Lewis responded, “[Laughs] No, no one’s asked me to put a top hat or a tailcoat on yet. Although I do know Julian [Fellowes, the ‘Downton Abbey’ creator] quite well. Maybe he’ll call, and I’ll play an American on ‘Downton Abbey.’ Maybe I could be Elizabeth McGovern’s American lover or something.”
I think Lewis and ‘Downton’ fans would be pleased to see him join the series, but rather than coming on the show as McGovern’s (she plays Cora Crawley) American love interest I prefer Lewis to keep that accent. Maybe he can woo Mary (Michelle Dockery) now that her one true love Matthew is no more? Or, maybe he can sweep Edith (Laura Carmichael) off her feet, because it’s about time Lady Edith gets some action and a romance that sticks. Lewis could also portray a handsome lover for Thomas (Rob James-Collier).
In my opinion, I think he'd be more than welcome as anyone's lover on that show. Lastly, we all know Lewis can wear a uniform quite nicely, so when the next war happens, he could he even play a soldier.
