'Broadchurch' Remake 'Gracepoint' Adds Michael Peña to Cast

Michael Pena joins the cast of FOX's 'Broadchurch' remake, 'Gracepoint'.

'End of Watch' star Michael Peña has joined the cast of 'Gracepoint,' FOX's 'Broadchurch' remake, TVLine reports.

Peña will play Mark Lasseter, the suspicious father of the 11-year-old boy around whose murder the entire series is centered. The role requires quite a range of emotions, and Peña has proven in his previous work to be a very capable actor. This character in the U.K. version was portrayed by Andrew Buchan.

In addition to 'End of Watch,' Peña has previously appeared in 'Crash,' 'Million Dollar Baby,' 'The Shield,' 'Eastbound and Down,' 'Battle Los Angeles', and 'Gangster Squad.'

Peña joins an already pretty impressive cast: 'Doctor Who's David Tennant will reprise his 'Broadchurch' role in 'Gracepoint,' and will be joined by 'Breaking Bad' Emmy-winner Anna Gunn as Ellie Miller, and 'Silver Linings Playbook' Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver as Susan Wright. These roles were played in 'Broadchurch' by Olivia Colman and Pauline Quirke, respectively. Kevin Zegers was recently announced as playing the role of reporter Owen Burke, who was played on 'Broadchurch' by Jonathan Bailey.

'Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall will write the premiere episode and executive produce the series. 'In Treatment''s Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein will serve as showrunners.

Filming for 'Gracepoint' begins next month on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Canada and it is set to air in the 2014-2015 season.

'Gracepoint' is shaping up to have a pretty impressive cast, and it will be interesting to see if FOX is able to recapture the success of 'Broadchurch.'

@anon. It's so they can cancel it. It's a game TV execs play. Like a lottery. The winner is the one who gets the stupidest idea made and cancelled in as few weeks. We are just 'observers'.

I don't understand why they are remaking the same story when the original (which was well done) could be shown on US television. Why don't they make a different story in "Broadchurch"
