'Community' star Yvette Nicole Brown has found herself quite in demand in the last year. In addition to her commitments on the returning NBC comedy, she's done guest spots on such varied shows as 'The Soul Man,' 'Shake It Up,' 'Once Upon A Time,' 'Family Guy,' and (an upcoming episode of) 'Psych.' On top of all that live action work, Brown voices a regular character on The Hub's 'Pound Puppies' reboot.
Now, according to TVLine, the once and future Shirley Bennett is headed to ABC Family sitcom 'Melissa & Joey.' Currently in its third season, 'Melissa and Joey' stars former teen heartthrobs Melissa Joan Hart ('Sabrina the Teenage Witch') and Joey Lawrence ('Blossom').
Melissa plays an up and coming politician who is forced to look after her niece and nephew after a scandal lands their parents in prison. Needing help, she hires disgraced commodities broker Joey to be her new "manny." Well, at least that's where the show started, the story has obviously evolved a bit over the course of its run.
Brown is set to play Calista, Melissa's feisty, outspoken hairdresser. Calista ends up accidentally striking Joey's car, then leaving the scene. This leads to a rift between the two leads, as Joey wants Calista to be held accountable, but Melissa doesn't want to lose her excellent haircare services.
'Melissa & Joey' returns for the second half of Season 3 on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Brown's appearance will air on April 2.
