[WARNING: If you have not seen 'Reign's midseason finale, stop reading now. Plot spoilers ahead!]
The CW's new royal-centric drama, 'Reign,' has proven many things during the first half of its freshman season. The first being that sixteenth century clothing can look pretty amazing when given a modern-day twist. But, more importantly, it's been able to incorporate a unique blend of romanticized fiction and actual history.
Royal politics, secret passage ways, tragic deaths, dark prophecies, and, of course, a teenage love triangle — this show has it all. And we’re only eight episodes in! So now that Mary's made the decision to flee the castle with Bash (leaving a heartbroken and oh-so dreamy Francis in her wake) there's no telling what kind of drama awaits these star-crossed lovers.
Fortunately, the network has released a small synopsis of what's to come, along with several photos of the midseason premiere episode "For King and Country," which premieres on Jan. 23.
Here’s what we can expect:
"When Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Bash (Torrance Coombs) are captured and forced to return to the castle, they discover Catherine (Megan Follows) waiting and even more determined to keep Mary and Francis apart. Francis learns of the prophecy, but his determination to wed Mary changes everything: in love in politics, tearing the bond of brothers apart, and hardening Catherine's resolve to destroy Mary at any cost."
Shakespeare said it best — uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. And it sounds like Mary and Francis are about to learn that the hard way. Check out the assortment of photos below and try your best to ‘reign’ in all your excitement. (Sorry, I had to.)
‘Reign’ returns on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 9/8c on The CW.
