Grab your sunscreen, people, because it's time to take a vacation! According to TVLine, there's a 'National Lampoon’s Vacation'-esque comedy series coming to ABC. Quite the TV gift, right? And here we thought Christmas was all over.
But what would a movie-turned-TV series be without its original stars — Clark and Ellen Griswold? Thankfully, we don't have to worry about that. Franchise vets Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo have already been booked for the single-camera pilot.
Aaron Kaplan ('Terra Nova,' 'The Neighbors') is on board to executive produce the project, which is still in the early stages of development for the 2015/2016 season. As of now, no writer has been penned to take on the adaption, so the search is on as far as that's concerned. However, we DO know that the pilot is supposedly centered around a pair of 60-something grandparents who are forced to raise their grandchildren.
Personally, we're thrilled at the prospect of seeing Chase and D’Angelo appear on screen together once more. The famous on-screen duo participated in four 'Vacation' productions with each other: 'Vacation' (1983), 'European Vacation' (1985), 'Christmas Vacation' (1989), and 'Vegas Vacation' (1997). That's a lot of built up chemistry.
This reunion will also give Chase a chance to head back into primetime television after his popular run on 'Community.' Meanwhile, D’Angelo’s last major TV role involved playing 'Entourage's Agent Barbara Miller.
Of course, this stroke of genius could just as easily turn into a disaster if the storyline is a bust. It's the risk any spin-off or movie-TV crossover faces: falling short of its predecessor. We'll just have to wait and see what fate has in store.
