Collidor are today reporting that Toby Jones will play the rotund director in a TV film called The Girl. The film will focus on the director's obsessive relationship with the blonde actress and star of The Birds, Tippi Hedren.
Toby Jones is infamous for his role in the Truman Capote bio, Infamous, but his performance was overshone by Philip Seymor Hoffman's Oscar winning role.
Sienna Miller, the star of Factory Girl and Interview, will play Hedren with Julian Jarrold, Becoming Jane, also directing Imelda Staunton, Another Year, and Penelope Wilton, Dowton Abbey, from a script by Gwyneth Hughes. Hitchcock biographer Donald Spoto will oversee the production to make sure it is authentic and accurate.
The screenwriter Gwyneth Hughes spoke to Hedren herself when writing the film noting, " It's been the most enormous privilege to talk at length to Tippi Hedren, the last "Hitchcock blonde" in the life of Britain's most original and scuccessful film director. At the time, in the early 1960s, the American star suffered in silence. But now, at the age of 81, her wisdom and insights have hlped me to put her real life ordeal on to the screen. I know Tippi is absolutely thrilled, as I am, with the casting of Sienna Miller to play her, and when the two of them met recently they got like a house on fire. I've loved Toby Jones' work for years and for me, he is the perfect coice to play the tormented genius, Alfred Hitchcoock."
It is yet to be reported when the show will air.
