As the saying always goes — 'Misery' loves company, which is what makes this next bit of news so appropriate. TV Guide reports that CBS has booked the legendary Kathy Bates to guest star in an upcoming episode of the popular hit sitcom 'Mike & Molly,' where she will play Molly's new pal, Kay McKinnon.
'Mike & Molly' executive producer, Chuck Lorre, told the site that Bates' character and Peggy Biggs (Rondi Reed) were best buds back during their old high school days. But when Kay — who's now a well-traveled world photographer — comes by for a visit, she immediately hits it off with Molly, leaving Peggy rather jealous and angry at Molly for stealing her best friend away. Looks like the girl claws are coming out!
But this isn't the first time Bates was approached for a role in the Monday night comedy. The actress was first asked to appear in a November episode as a famous author. However, the 'Misery' star was in New Orleans at the time shooting a certain FX horror series — you may have heard of it: 'American Horror Story: Coven' — so she was unable to accept the part.
Instead, the role went to Susan Sarandon, who just so happens to be co-starring with Bates and McCarthy in this summer's big-screen comedy 'Tammy.' We guess talented ladies like sticking together. And for that we are eternally grateful.
'Mike & Molly' airs Mondays at 9/8c on CBS.
