It’s now time for CBS to take its turn at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, as they kicked off their portion of announcements with the premiere dates of two anticipated dramatic series.
‘Under the Dome,’ the mystery-thriller based upon the novel by Stephen King, will kick off its second season on Monday, June 30, at 10/9c. It remains in the same timeslot that saw it become last summer’s No. 1 series, as well as the most-watched scripted summer series in over two decades.
King will be penning the season premiere of the show, which stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle LeFevre, Natalie Martinez, among others, as characters who become trapped when an invisible, powerful force envelopes their town. The one-hour premiere will reportedly feature the deaths of two major characters.
Just a couple days later on July 2 at 9/8c, the network will premiere ‘Extant,’ a new series starring Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry, who will be making her first significant foray on the small screen (she has previously done some TV movies, and had a stint on ‘Knot’s Landing’ in the early '90s).
The new series follows an astronaut (Berry) as she tries and connects with her family after returning from a year in space, with mystery and drama ensuing.
Both shows are produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, and while there was speculation that the pair would be lumped into a blockbuster two-hour timeslot, they have instead been split up.
Additionally, CBS has renewed their entire daytime lineup, a slate that includes ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful,’ ‘The Price is Right,’ and ‘Let’s Make a Deal.’
