NBC has ordered three more comedy pilots for the fall season, including one led by executive producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.
The ‘Anchorman’ alums will bring their comedic style to ‘Mission Control,’ a project from Universal that takes place during the space race of the early 1960s. In it, a headstrong female astronaut clashes with a brazen male counterpart as they, among others, seek to land on the moon first.
The workplace comedy is described as having a similar tone to the ‘Anchorman’ franchise, which, depending on how you enjoyed those movies, could mean that it’s outrageous and hysterical, or messy and without plot. David Hornsby, of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ note, will write and also executive produce.
NBC has too called for the questionably-titled ‘Love is Relative,’ a multi-camera sitcom that follows a married couple’s new look on relationships after the wife’s brother moves in with them following his divorce. The project will be led by executive producer Tom Werner, who’s previous credits include ‘Roseanne’ and ‘That '70s Show,’ and penned by Dan Mazer, a past collaborator with Sacha Baron Cohen.
Lastly, there is ‘Ellen More or Less,’ about a woman who’s brand new look, which includes losing 100 pounds, gives her a refreshed embrace of life, and puts her on a determined quest for love. Written by J.J. Philbin (‘New Girl’) and executive produced by Jason Katmiss (‘Parenthood’), the single-camera comedy is loosely based on the nonfiction book, '10 Lessons From A Former Fat Girl.’
For those keeping track at home, these three additions bring NBC’s comedy pilot order total up to seven, so far.
