If you’re reading this story in hopes of hearing Jason Ritter (‘Parenthood,’ ‘The Event’) is starring in a new comedy, you’re out of luck. Yes, John Ritter’s son is joining CBS’ new pilot ‘The McCarthys,’ but it’s his other son, Tyler, Deadline reports.
Tyler Ritter has just scored the leading role in ‘The McCarthys,’ a multi-camera comedy revolving around a big Irish Catholic family living in Boston. Ritter will play Ronny, the youngest son, who is also gay. He has no issue with his sexualtiy, but considers his biggest sin as wanting to avoid his family as much as possible.
In addition to Ritter, ‘The McCarthys’ also stars Kelen Coleman (‘The Office,’ ‘The Mindy Project’). She joins the show as sister Jackie McCarthy, who is also roommates with Ritter’s character.
One of the bigger names tied to the project is ‘Roseanne’s Laurie Metcalf. The funny lady is set to portray Marjorie, the matriarch of the Boston family. ‘Common Law’s Jack McGee also stars as Arthur, the patriarch of the family.
If that isn’t exciting enough, New Kids On The Block’s Joey McIntyre is also starring as another McCarthy son, Gerard. We also have Jimmy Dunn, who is set to play son Sean McCarthy. He is described as “dim” and “a little chubby.” Sean also lives in an attic room off of Gerard’s third-floor apartment.
