ABC Orders Soapy Drama From David O. Russell, Susannah Grant

It's shaping up to be a busy time of year for director/writer David O. Russell. Not only is his 'American Hustle' picking up some major hardware this awards season (including a Best Director Oscar nod for himself), but now he's bringing a drama series to ABC.

ABC Orders Soapy Drama From David O. Russell, Susannah Grant

ABC has ordered straight-to-series 13 episodes of the show from 'The Silver Linings Playbook' director, who co-wrote the story with 'Erin Brockovich' writer Susannah Grant. Grant is writing the teleplay.

The project is described as a "soapy" upstairs/downstairs drama set at a private country club. Yes, people, this is the American 'Downton Abbey' version we've been waiting for.

The still-untitled show is the first television project from Russell. Grant, who also wrote the films, 'Catch and Release' and 'In Her Shoes,' got her start on the FOX '90s teen drama 'Party of Five' and also created and wrote the now-defunct CBS medical drama 'A Gifted Man,' starring Patrick Wilson, which ran in 2011.

Though no casting has yet been said, with Russell being able to command just about every A-list actor in Hollywood to appear in his movies (he's the man responsible for making Jennifer Lawrence such a big star, people!), I'm pretty sure that many Hollywood big names will be vying for a spot in the drama.
