Bill Cosby Returning to TV with Another Family Comedy

Bill Cosby is poised to return to television with another family sitcom.

Deadline reports that NBC has made a deal for a half-hour family comedy starring Cosby, who will also co-produce and co-write the series. Like his previous sitcom work on 'The Cosby Show' and 'Cosby' (both on CBS,) this new show will be based around Cosby's own take on marriage and parenting. Cosby will portray the patriarch of a multi-generational family.

Cosby will be partnering with Tom Werner, whose company with Marcy Carsey produced 'The Cosby Show.' Cosby and Werner are meeting with writers for the project, which has been put on the off-season development track.

For a while now, Cosby and Werner have been planning Cosby's return to television. Their goal is to reach a wide audience, and they have a pretty good idea of what the viewers are looking for: "They would like to see a married couple that acts like they love each other, warts and all, children who respect the parenting, and the comedy of people who make mistakes. Warmth and forgiveness," Cosby told Yahoo TV in November. "So I hope to get that opportunity, and I will deliver the best of Cosby."

The actor certainly knows the makings of a perfect TV couple (Cliff and Clair, hello!), and, let's face it, no one delivers a life lesson better than Bill Cosby. Here's hoping we have a lot more Cosby sweaters to look forward to.
