‘The Flash’ Pilot Welcomes Rick Cosnett, Danielle Panabaker

The CW’s ‘The Flash’ pilot has just added a possible Professor Zoom and Caitlin Snow, Deadline exclusively reports.

‘The Flash’ Pilot Welcomes Rick Cosnett, Danielle PanabakerRick Cosnett, widely popular for his role as Dr. Wes Maxfield on ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ will take on the role of Detective Eddie Thawne, a new transfer at the Central City Police Department. He is said to have a mystery-filled past and also holds a dark secret. Per DC lore, Professor Eobard Thawne is Professor Zoom aka the archenemy to The Flash. Will Cosnett's character become said villain? Only time will tell.

As for Caitlin Snow, she’ll be played by ‘Necessary Roughness’ Danielle Panabaker. She is said to be “a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs.”

In addition to Cosnett and Panabaker, Jesse L. Martin is also coming to the superhero show as Detective West of Central City, who also acts as Barry’s mentor.

An origin story, ‘The Flash’ focuses on Barry Allen aka The Flash, played by Grant Gustin. As CW fans know, Gustin recently guest-starred on ‘Arrow’ bringing Barry Allen/The Flash to life. In my opinion, he fits the part quite perfectly of a young man trying to exonerate his father of his mother’s murder.

Originally, ‘The Flash’ was set to air as a backdoor ‘Arrow’ pilot, but then received its very own pilot. I guess the network has faith in its latest hero with super-speed. Here’s hoping it gets picked up for more than just a pilot.

It could be that Professor Eobard Thawne is a descenent of Detective Eddie Thawne as Professor Zoom or the reverse flash as he is also know is from the future and recreated the accident that gave the flash his superspeed and travels back in time.

I'm very psyched for this.  I take it we don't have an air date for this yet?

Yes it does now and thank you very much for responding so quickly.  I see my original comment posted 2 times but I have no idea why it double posted I don't believe I hit enter twice? If it was something I did wrong then I am very sorry about that?

Jaguardog, Rick Cosnett has been cast as Detective Eddie Thawne. In DC lore, there is also a Professor Eobard Thawne/Professor Zoom. No word on whether Cosnett's character will become Professor Zoom -- that is speculation (the article now reflects that as well). I hope that clears up any confusion.
