Long live the Queen, indeed! TVLine has confirmed that ABC's popular fairytale series 'Once Upon a Time' plans to bring back a very familiar (and highly dangerous) character later this season. That's right, folks. Rose McGowan has signed on to reprise her role as the youthful version of the villainous Queen of Hearts.
McGowan ('Charmed') first appeared as the miller’s daughter, Cora, in a set of fairytale flashbacks during the March 2013 episode "The Miller’s Daughter." There it was revealed that Regina's mommy dearest and Rumple were once actually in love! That is, until Cora removed her own heart in the pursuit of great power. (Can you say, awkward breakup?)
So why exactly will she be gracing us with her presence once more — especially now that her older counterpart, Barbara Hershey, met a very fatal end last year? It will obviously be in the form of another flashback, but with Cora out of the picture, whose flashback memory will it be? Our bet's on Regina, but if we've learned one thing from this show (aside from the fact that magic always comes with a price), it's that anything is possible.
Perhaps it has something to do with Henry's family tree growing "by two spaces" at season's end. Also, it's worth mentioning that Young Cora's return in Episode 18 is at least two episodes after The Wicked Witch's backstory begins to unfold. Just sayin...maybe they were BFFs! For now, it's anyone's guess.
'Once Upon a Time' returns from its long winter hiatus on March 9 at 8/7c on ABC.
