Just as we expect uber-producer Shonda Rhimes to give us sexy, addictive dramas, it's pretty much de rigeur for hot, young up-and-coming stars to be cast in her shows. That's why it comes as no surprise that 'Orange Is the New Black' cutie, Matt McGorry, has been cast in Rhimes' new ABC pilot, 'How To Get Away With Murder.'
The legal thriller, written by Peter Nowalk of Rhimes' 'Scandal,' focuses on a group of young legal minds, who, along with their mysterious criminal defense professor, become entangled in a murder plot. The series will be produced by Rhimes and Betsy Beers, and it was just announced that Australian director, Michael Offer ('Last Resort'), will direct, marking his U.S. pilot directorial debut.
'OITNB' fans know McGorry as the stumbly, not-so-innocent-as-his-baby-face-suggests corrections officer, John Bennett. McGorry will star as one of the students named Asher, but who also goes by the name Doucheface. Draw your own conclusions. I'm not sure which is worse - Pornstache or Doucheface - but either one speaks volumes about one's character, no?
McGorry's casting suggests that Bennett's time at Lichfield Correctional Facility may be coming to an end. What will that mean to his relationship with Daya? I guess we'll find out when the second season of 'OITNB' drops on Netflix later this year.
