Hold onto your ruby slippers, my pretties, and get ready to stumble even further down the Yellow Brick Road.
As it turns out, the Wicked Witch won't be the only 'Wizard of Oz' character to land in the magical world of 'Once Upon a Time' this season. TVLine has exclusively learned that the ABC drama is gearing up to also induct Glinda the Good Witch into the fairytale fold in a recurring role.
Though it's unclear who exactly the series has in mind to play the iconic character, casting for the bewitching part is already well underway, with the network looking for an actress in her mid to late twenties. Glinda is described as "elegant, warm and benevolent, as well as wise, clever and shrewd" — all things she'll definitely need if she plans to go up against her evil 'Oz' counterpart.
However, from what we hear, it sounds like Glinda may not be quite ready for a full-on good vs. evil battle when we first meet her. Years of isolation have made her both lonely and cautious — though at her core, she remains steadfastly filled with optimism. (We're sure a good pep talk from Snow White would cure all her ailments.)
This exciting news comes just two months after it was announced that 'Lost' alum Rebecca Mader would be “going green” to play the novel’s infamous villainess. And while it's unknown if they'll be making their grand debuts in the exact same episode (though they probably will), fans can still undoubtedly look forward to a "wicked" good time.
As for who's most likely to get the role, our money's on former 'Smash' star Megan Hilty, who not only looks the part, but could bring an impressive set of singing chops to the character as well. Though if they're really going to go the musical route, the obvious choice would be to nab Kristin Chenoweth: the original Glinda from the Broadway musical 'Wicked.' Just some food for thought, writers.
'Once Upon a Time' returns Sunday, March 9 at 8/7c on ABC.
