It looks like ‘Drop Dead Diva’ will officially be dead and buried after its sixth season airs this spring, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The dramedy from Josh Berman focuses on leading lady lawyer Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott), who actually has the spirit of former model Deb in her body. For five seasons, the series has followed Jane, or rather Deb, getting used to her new skin and job. Of course, the major storyline has depicted the inevitable romance between Jane and Grayson (Jackson Hurst), who had a fairytale relationship with Deb prior to her fatal car accident.
All I’m saying is, if Jane and Grayson don’t become a match made in heaven by the series end there just might be an uprising.
Now, sadly, fans will kiss the series goodbye --again -- as this isn’t the first time ‘Diva’ has been axed.
Originally, Season 5 was to be its last, but Lifetime revived the angelic series for a sixth season with 13 episodes. Season 6 has already enlisted a slew of guest stars, including Colin Egglesfield, Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, Rick Springfield, John Ratzenberger (who plays Kate Levering’s father), S. Epatha Merkerson, among many others.
‘Diva’ also stars April Bowlby, Justin Deeley, Lex Medlin, and Margaret Cho. As for funny lady Cho, she already has her next role lined up, as she was recently cast in Tina Fey’s new comedy, ‘Cabott College, where she’ll play the college’s administrator.
The sixth, and now final, season premieres with a two-hour episode on Sunday, March 23 at 9/8c on Lifetime.
