‘Downton Abbey’ is almost over in the states, two more episodes are left, but that isn’t stopping the hit British period drama from announcing new cast members, in addition to familiar faces for Season 5.
Let’s start with the new faces we can expect next season. First up we have Richard E. Grant, known for his roles as Jasper on ‘Girls,’ and Dr. Simeon on ‘Doctor Who.’ Grant will play Simon Bricker, who comes to Downton as a guest of the Granthams.
Next we have Anna Chancellor (‘The Hour,’ ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’). She will show up in the guest role of Lady Anstruther. Last for the new faces is Rade Sherbedgia (‘24,’ ‘Eyes Wide Shut’). He’ll join the series in the role of a Russian refugee.
As for the returning characters we’ve seen before, Dame Harriet Walter will once again grace us with her presence as Lady Shackleton, who is not only a friend of Violet’s (Maggie Smith), but she’s the one Violet hoped would hire poor Mr. Molesley at the beginning of Season 4.
Peter Egan will also set foot again on ‘Downton’ as Lord Flintshire aka Rose’s (Lily James) father. He's related to the Crawleys through his wife, who is Robert’s first cousin.
‘Downton Abbey’ airs Sundays on PBS. It is expected to return for its fifth season next January for those living in the U.S., while the U.K. will view it in the fall.
