The ‘Harry Potter’ franchise veteran will be working some magic for USA Network’s upcoming event miniseries.
Jason Isaacs will be playing Peter, an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem, who must investigate the murder of an archeologist. Complications arise when he uncovers a centuries old conspiracy that could alter the course of human history.
‘Dig’ is being brought to fruition by ‘Heroes’ producer Tim Kring, in partnership with Gideon Raff, who created both the Israeli and U.S. versions of the addictive series ‘Homeland.’ The USA Network action-adventure miniseries aims to release a six-episode season next fall, and if all goes well move forward with a 13-episode second season, following a similar strategy to other cable successes.
According to Jeff Wachtel (NBC Universal’s chief content officer for cable projects) as described in the New York Times, there’s ambition to develop the series into “the big buzz-worthy project” for USA Network, akin to ‘Breaking Bad,’ a departure from the cable channel’s lighter fare like ‘Burn Notice.' He goes on to describe 'Dig' as “kind of an Indiana Jones meets ‘The Da Vinci Code’ vibe,” which is great because I really enjoy one of those things.
In addition to his prolific film career, Isaacs is no stranger to television roles, having starred as Detective Michael Britten in the short-lived NBC split-reality drama, ‘Awake,’ in 2012. Currently he is on location in Europe filming the NBC miniseries remake of the classic thriller ‘Rosemary’s Baby.’
