Amy Pond is back, and she has just as much attitude as ever. All right, well, not Amy Pond exactly, but the woman who brought her to life, Karen Gillan, has signed on to star in ABC's pilot 'Selfie.'
'Selfie' is said to be inspired by 'My Fair Lady,' and is centered on a self-obsessed 20-something Eliza Dooley (Gillan), who is more concerned with "likes" than being well-liked. In the pilot, a video of her very public and humiliating break-up goes viral, and she gains more followers than ever, but for all the wrong reasons. She enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image.
'Selfie' is penned by 'Suburgatory' creator Emily Kapnek, who will also executive produce via her Piece of Pie Productions banner. Julie Anne Robinson will direct the pilot.
Gillan has stayed busy since leaving 'Doctor Who' midway through its seventh season in 2012. In addition to showing off her comedic chops on Adult Swim's 'NTSF:SD:SUV,' she appeared on the big screen in 'Not Another Happy Ending' and the upcoming horror flick 'Oculus.' She also shocked many fans by shaving off her long ginger locks to play the villain Nebula in the upcoming and much-buzzed-about 'Guardians of the Galaxy.'
Gillan's Amy Pond was a fan-favorite companion on 'Doctor Who,' and it will be very exciting to see her return to our screens, hopefully for many years to come.
