And the pilot casting updates continue to grow!
'SNL' alum Molly Shannon has been cast as the female lead in ABC's upcoming pilot 'Bambi Cottages.' The show will center around an overworked father who dreams of being "on vacation all year" and decides to uproot his family from the city and move to New Hampshire. And while they end up opening a group of tourist cottages, it isn't the relaxing lifestyle they'd hoped for. Shannon will play the deadpan wife Cathleen — an exhausted, but loving mother.
In other ABC news, Deadline reports that 'Fantastic Four's Ioan Gruffudd will take the lead in the network's new drama pilot 'Forever,' which will focus on New York City's star medical examiner who studies the dead because he's actually immortal.
'Reno 911's Cedric Yarbrough has been cast in FOX's half-hour pilot 'Dead Boss,' starring Jane Krakowski as Helen, an overachiever who finds herself wrongfully convicted of killing her boss, and must rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. Yarbrough will play Tony, Helen's good-natured, but schlumpy lawyer.
ABC's drama pilot 'Exposed' — about investigative journalist, Anna, who will stop at nothing to uncover the truth — has cast Sandrine Holt ('Hostages'), Pedro Pascal ('Game of Thrones'), and Peter De Jersey ('Broadchurch'). Holt will play Jill, a managing editor at a magazine, who wants Anna to look into a whistle blower story and is somewhat irked when Anna declines. Pascal will play Oscar, Anna's boyfriend, who is frustrated when Anna is unwilling to take their relationship to the next level. Meanwhile, De Jersey will play Elvis, a once-great rock critic, now West Coast political editor.
In even more castig news, ABC's medical drama pilot 'Warriors' — inspired by the Walter Reed Military Medical Center — has nabbed Hampton Fluker ('The Blind Side') and Justina Machado ('Six Feet Under') for the series. Fluker will play Army Corporal Marlon Jones, who is wounded in Afghanistan by an IED attack and is brought to Walter Reed for his care. Machado will assume the role of Anna, the chief surgical scrub nurse for Dr. George Mann (Don Hany), who is impervious to his teasing but not his bad jokes.
'Smash' fans will be excited to see Christian Borle returning to NBC in the odd-couple comedy 'Lifesavers.' The show will center on two polar-opposites: the uptight, controlling, and a bit neurotic Dr. Graham Permenter (Borle), and loose cannon Leon (Jonathan Ryland), who become inextricably linked after Leon saves Graham's life by giving him a kidney. (Does this mean there won't be any singing?)
And finally, 'Ugly Betty' alum Becki Newton has landed a starring role in FOX's comedy 'Weird Loners.' The pilot, about four relationship-phobic people who are unexpectedly thrust into one another's lives in a townhouse in Queens, N.Y., will star Newton as Caryn Goldfarb: a smart, attractive, high-strung dental hygienist who is a pushover where handsome, charming men are concerned. (Who isn't?) However, she always comes on too strong and fast for any relationship to last. 'Happy Ending's Zachary Knighton will play one of the other "Loners."
