As it began on television, so too will the feature film installment of the ‘Veronica Mars’ franchise make its way to the small screen.
As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the ‘Veronica Mars’ movie will be available to home viewers on the same day it is to be released in theatres. Roughly 270 cinemas will show the Warner Bros. film, when it is due out on March 14; on that same day, it can also be bought or rented at home.
The endeavor marks the first time that one of the six major Hollywood studios has distributed a film in theatres and offered it at home on the same release date.
This is just another notch on the already curiously-crafted ‘Veronica Mars’ movie, a film that comes seven years after the TV show ended. Fan support grew too great, and a successful Kickstarter campaign last year helped fund the movie and bring back all the beloved characters of the cult series.
Due to the move, only AMC theatres will show the release; other cineplex's won’t show films that are being released at home simultaneously.
Canceled in 2007, the UPN/CW show returns with events set 10 years after the end of the show with Kristen Bell and the rest of the cast returning. The titular sleuth is heading back to her home of Neptune, Calif., just in time for her high school reunion as well as to come to rescue her old friend Logan Echolls, who finds himself enwrapped in a murder mystery.
‘Veronica Mars’ will be released on March 14.
