TBS' new comedy pilot, 'Tribeca,' is keeping it in the family. Deadline has learned that music mogul Quincy Jones and actress/model Peggy Lipton are set to play the parents of the show's star, Rashida Jones, who just happens to be their real-life daughter.
Lipton and Jones were married for 16 years before their split in 1990 and also have another daughter, Kidada. They obviously remain on good terms, or else this TV reunion would be seriously awkward. The senior Jones, of course, worked with big-name musical talents, like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra. Lipton, a former model, got her big break on the '60s cult series 'The Mod Squad' and starred in another iconic show, David Lynch's 'Twin Peaks.'
'Tribeca' is a satirical look at a police procedural, which centers on Angie Tribeca (Jones), a 10-year veteran of the LAPD. The single-camera series also explores the eccentricities of those involved in police enforcement who reveal way TMI and won't rest until justice has been served. The project reunites Jones with Steve Carrell, her former castmate from NBC's 'The Office.' Carrell will direct the pilot from the script that he co-wrote with his wife, Nancy Carrell.
Also in talks for a guest spot (and potential recurring role) is Alfred Molina, who will play Dr. Edelweiss (I love that song!), who is a pretty serious handwriting expert, even though he has a penchant for toys. And if that wasn't enough talented guest stars for your taste, 'Friends' alum Lisa Kudrow is also in talks for a cameo.
