TVRage Bulletin:  VH1 Cancels ‘Single Ladies,’ USA Sets ‘Playing House’ Premiere & More!


In addition to all of the other news we’ve been reporting, here are a few entertainment and TV headlines you might have missed:

-Bad news for fans of VH1’s ‘Single Ladies,’ as the scripted series has been axed. After three seasons, the show will end its run on March 24, with the third season finale serving as the series finale.

-USA has set a premiere date for its upcoming comedy series ‘Playing House,’ starring and executive-produced by Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham. It will debut on Tuesday April, 29 at 10/9c with back-to-back episodes.

-Showrunner Marco Pennette is departing TV Land’s ‘Kirstie.’ If the comedy gets ordered for a second season, it will be without the creator and executive producer. According to Deadline, Pennette is leaving due to a personal issue making it difficult to perform his physically demanding duties.

-A Spanish-language ‘Scandal’ spoof series, 'Escandalo,' is coming to 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.' The first episode aired the other night on the late night talk show, and now three more episodes have been ordered featuring ‘Scandal’ cast members. Check out the first installment here:

-Soleil Moon Frye is joining ABC’s ‘Mistresses’ in a guest stint, Entertainment Weekly reports. She’ll play “a version of herself” and a potential celebrity client for Joss (Jes Macallan).

-FOX is currently developing a murder event series based on the Manson murders. With help from writer Bret Easton Ellis and musician Rob Zombie, the project plans to showcase different characters during the time of the 1969 murders by Charles Manson.

-Deadline reports Joe Pantoliano (‘The Sopranos’) is coming to the CBS comedy pilot ‘More Time With Family,’ starring Tom Papa and Alyson Hannigan, where he’ll play Stan Rizzo, Papa’s “opinionated, old-school father.”

-Ellen Burstyn and Fred Willard are coming to the small screen, as they’ve both been cast in
Amy Poehler’s ‘Old Soul.’ Burstyn will play earthy lesbian and cancer survivor Eileen, aunt to Natasha Lyonne’s Nadia. Willard will take on the role Hector, a veteran Broadway songwriter married to Rita Moreno’s character.

Can you believe that Punky Brewster is all growne up and now 37 years old. Going to have to watch Mistreses to see just how growen up she is.
