Is it getting hot in here or is that just this week's episode of 'Reign'?
In a rather bold new experiment on The CW's part, the network has announced that it will release two different versions of the show's Thursday night episode, “The Consummation,” this week. One will be an on-air cut that meets broadcast content standards, while the other is marked as an uncensored “too hot for TV” version that will stream exclusively online at the CWTV.com site come Friday morning for those who wish to see it (aka all of us).
So what exactly will the main difference be, you may ask? It all boils down to the editing of two very special sex scenes — one which occurs at the top of the hour and one airing toward the end that involves Mary (Adelaide Kane), who finally chooses between her two suitors, Francis and Bash. You know, because sometimes life is just that difficult.
According to Entertainment Weekly, who first reported the steamy news, The CW refused to comment on what will specifically take place during those scenes, however, a spokesperson noted the network isn't going so far as to add any R-rated content. It's just simply offering a more sexually intense edit of the already existing footage. No complaints here!
But this isn't the first time 'Reign' has faced toning down its sexual content for the network's liking. The period drama previously trimmed what was originally intended to be a much more explicit scene of “self pleasure” from its series premiere. Funny enough, that moment followed a sequence in which Mary and her ladies in waiting watched a royal couple consummate their marriage — a ritual that also takes place in this week's episode.
But as for who the lucky couples will be...well, for that we'll just have to tune in and see. 'Reign' airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
