'Madam Secretary' has found her Chief of Staff in Bebe Neuwirth. The 'Frasier' and 'Cheers' alum has landed a supporting role on the upcoming CBS drama pilot.
The project, created and written by Barbara Hall ('Joan of Arcadia'), follows the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State, Elizabeth McGill (Tea Leoni), who tries to wrangle office and international politics while also balancing a complicated home life. Emmy and Tony winner Neuwirth will play Nadine, the Secretary of State’s Chief of Staff.
Up-and-comers Erich Bergen and Evan Roe have also been cast in the series as Elizabeth’s young, loyal assistant and her teenage son, respectively. The trio join a cast that already includes Tim Daly ('Private Practice') and Geoffrey Arend ('Body of Proof').
Though this is Neuwirth's first steady TV gig in a while, she has popped up on the small screen over the years, appearing on 'The Good Wife,' ''Blue Bloods,' 'Bored to Death,' and 'Law & Order.' Also a seasoned Broadway veteran, Neuwirth has won Tonys for her performances in 'Chicago' and 'Sweet Charity,' and also starred in 'Fosse,' 'A Chorus Line,' and 'The Addams Family.'
Hall, who has also worked on 'Homeland,' is exec-producing the pilot with its director, Dave Semel ('American Horror Story'), alongside Revelation Entertainment's Lori McCreary, Morgan Freeman and Tracey Mercer.
