Here Ye, Hear Ye!
E! is looking to make scripted programming its next crowning achievement. The network has just given a series pickup order to its very first scripted drama ever, entitled 'The Royals,' which will center around a fictional British Royal family as they live out their lives in modern-day London.
So who's been asked to join this regal little crew? Elizabeth Hurley ('Gossip Girl') has signed on to fill the role of Queen Helena — whose son Prince Liam (William Moseley, 'The Chronicles of Narnia' franchise) is thrust into the royal spotlight after his older brother, the beloved Prince Robert, is tragically killed during a military training accident.
The young prince soon develops a secret romance with the daughter of his family's head of security, Ophelia ('Ravenswood‘s Haley Lu Richardson), which does not sit too well with mommy dearest and creates unavoidable conflict to all involved. Ah, the joys of family drama!
Other cast members of the 'Hamlet'-esque drama include Vincent Regan ('Strike Back'), Alexandra Park ('Home and Away'), Tom Austen ('The Borgias'), Jake Maskall ('EastEnders'), Ukweli Roach ('Eternal Law'), and Oliver Milburn (the UK’s 'Mistresses').
'One Tree Hill's Mark Schwahn both wrote and directed the pilot, and will serve as executive producer alongside Brian Robbins and Joe Davola
'The Royals' will film in Great Britain and is slated to premiere on E! sometime in 2015.
