Can a skeptical surgeon find evidence that there is life after death? Deadline exclusively reports that Jennifer Beals is slated to take the lead in TNT’s supernatural medical drama ‘Proof.’
Written by Rob Bragin (‘Murphy Brown’) and directed by Alex Graves (‘The West Wing’), the pilot focuses on surgeon Dr. Kathryn Russo (Beals) who is described as “a skeptical, hard-science, brilliant female surgeon with a caustic edge who has been struggling with the devastating loss of her teenage son and a growing estrangement from her surviving daughter. She is persuaded to investigate cases of reincarnation, out-of-body experiences, hauntings — all of it looking for verifiable proof to answer one of life’s greatest questions: Is death truly the end, or is there something else beyond?”
Beals, best known for Showtime’s ‘The L Word,’ and the feature ‘Flashdance,’ has also made numerous appearances on television shows such as, ‘Frasier,’ ‘Lie to Me,’ and FOX’s ‘The Chicago Code.’
She most recently co-created and is executive producing HBO’s upcoming hour-long drama ‘Laughs Unlimited.’ The show, named after the stand-up comedy club where the characters frequently visit, is centered on the issues of veterans who return from the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Kyra Sedgwick ('The Closer') will executive produce 'Proof,' alongside Jill Littman, Tom Jacobson, Bragin, and Graves.
Both ‘Proof’ and ‘Laughs Unlimited’ are still in development and without a slated premiere date.
