Mary Elizabeth Winstead is about to get some major exposure. The 'Final Destination 3' star has been tapped to topline ABC's drama pilot 'Exposed.'
The series has a 'House of Cards' meets 'The Newsroom' feel to it as it centers on investigative journalist, Anna (Winstead), who apparently stops at nothing to uncover the truth of a story.
The project comes from writer Charles Randolph ('Love & Other Drugs') and is based on the best-selling and critically-acclaimed Swedish novels by Liza Marklund, a Swedish journalist and crime writer. In the novel series, Anna balances motherhood with her career ambitions as she works for a tabloid paper as a crime reporter, but no word (yet) if the American version will be the same.
Winstead's casting is a pretty big get for the network as she's been on top of this pilot season's wish list. According to Deadline, Winstead turned down half a dozen pilots before opting for 'Exposed.' Although Winstead has been a popular face on the big screen with turns in movies like 'A Good Day To Die Hard' and 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,' Winstead got her start on TV as a regular on the short-lived soap 'Passions,' as well as the werewolf thriller 'Wolf Lake' (that aired in a pre-'Twilight' world, kiddies).
'Exposed' will be produced by Peter Traugott’s TBD Entertainment, Sweden-based Yellow Bird Entertainment and Universal TV.
