Bazinga! Just kidding, this is not a trick or a joke.
Fans of 'The Big Bang Theory' have several reasons to celebrate today...well, three very big reasons, to be exact. CBS has announced that its decided to renew television's No. 1 hit sitcom for another three years, officially extending the series through the 2016-17 season.
“Comedy is a big part of our schedule, and 'The Big Bang Theory' is the biggest comedy force on television,” CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement. “This multi-year deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy."
She added, "We’re proud to work with and showcase the incredible talents of Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and this amazing cast every week.”
This news doesn't really come as much of a shock, considering how 'Big Bang' remains one of the most-watched, highly rated shows on TV, averaging an impressive 19.79 million viewers per week. So yes, obviously the network would want to keep its biggest comedy draw around for as long as possible, and the fact that the deal is for a full three-year pickup proves just how much confidence it has in these lovable geeks.
