Hold onto your TARDIS, Whovians, because 'Doctor Who' has finally found a new big bad for Season 8. And it's in the form of...a banker?
British actress Keeley Hawes, who currently stars in 'Line of Duty,' has recently been hired by the British series to play Ms. Delphox — a powerful, out-of-this-world banker with a dark secret.
While traveling across space and time, the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his companion, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) will find themselves face-to-face with the mysterious Ms. Delphox shortly after arriving on a strange and puzzling planet.
“I am delighted to join 'Doctor Who' and to be working with this incredible team," Hawes said in a statement. "Ms Delphox is a great character and someone I've had a lot of fun playing."
Executive producer Steven Moffat added: "Anyone watching Jed Mercurio's amazing 'Line of Duty' will know that Keeley Hawes is having one hell of year. And now it's about to get even better as she achieves the greatest villainy yet attempted on 'Doctor Who': She plays a banker."
Fans have been waiting with bated breath to see how Capaldi intends to fill the rather big Time Lord shoes Matt Smith left behind. So this should give him a great opportunity to shine in the face of evil. (Somebody get this guy a sonic screwdriver STAT!)
And as for Hawes herself, she may not look all that menacing in her photo, but something tells us there's more to her character than meets the eye. And you can take that to the bank.
The episode is directed by Douglas Mackinnon ('Line of Duty,' 'Doctor Who') and written by Steve Thompson ('Sherlock').

'Doctor Who' returns to BBC America later this year.
