For three seasons now, 'American Horror Story' has prided itself on selecting the most terrifying storylines fans could ever dare to imagine. But if you thought a coven full of witches, haunted houses, and insane asylums were scary, that's nothing compared to the twisted whopper Ryan Murphy has in store for the series' fourth season.
Many theories have been circulating throughout the past few months in regards to Season 4's central plot, and now it seems we're finally getting some answers to our clearly well thought out predictions.
In a podcast with the Nerdist Writers Panel, 'AHS' writer and co-executive producer Douglas Petrie spilled the beans on one very important detail, revealing that the upcoming installment will take place at...(drumroll, please)...a carnival!
Here's how it all went down: When one writer made mention of the carnival theory, Petrie's response pretty much sealed the deal. "Yes. It doesn't have a title, but that's the idea," he confirmed. "Very roughly, that's the idea." (For those of you still skeptical, listen to the podcast around the 33-minute mark to hear it for yourself.)
So there you have it, folks! We're about to experience a spooky carnival — the likes of which we've never seen before, if Murphy has anything to say about it. So those of you already afraid of deranged carnies and clowns, you may want to think about sitting this season out. Or just be prepared to have nightmares for 12 weeks.
Carnival and circus themes became a popular theory earlier this year after several highly impressive fan-made posters hit the web. And while Murphy attempted to put those theories to bed, telling Entertainment Weekly, "No one has completely guessed what it is," the key word to remember there is "completely," so clearly he was just trying to throw us off.
Check out some of the fantastic fan-made poster art below and get ready to witness the most spectacular (freak)show on Earth!
'American Horror Story' returns for its fourth season later this fall.
