A pair of very funny stars have signed up for another fall pilot, as Rachel Dratch and David Cross are set to appear in the FOX comedy ‘Dead Boss.’
A ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum, Dratch has signed on to be a series regular should the half-hour pilot get picked up. ‘Dead Boss’ follows overachiever Helen Stephens (Jane Krakowski), a woman wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and subsequently forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to help prove her innocence (for reasons unknown).
While that crazy sister role does sound like something Dratch would excel, she instead will portray Christine, Helen’s cellmate who's possessive of a sunny disposition, a lot of emotional needs, and a penchant for starting fires.
Cross, meanwhile, will only guest star on the pilot. The ‘Arrested Development’ actor will play Derek Bridges, the titular and thus short-lived ‘Dead Boss.’ Described as narcissistic, credit-stealing, and misogynistic, Cross will get to revel in this role, albeit briefly.
The pilot will also feature Amy Sedaris as Mary, Helen’s nosy and nitpicking colleague, Justine Long as her well-intentioned sister, and Ravi Patel as an obsessive coworker.
‘Dead Boss’ is an adaptation of a British series of the same name created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Wash that began in 2012. The U.S. version will be written by ‘Suburgatory’ executive producer, Patricia Breen.
